This time of year should be the most relaxing and joyful season, but more than likely it is hectic, rushed, and completely stressful.  It doesn’t have to be!! I’ve got 5 ways to fill your cup during the holidays so that you can end the year filled with abundance. The holidays are a time where we tend to hang on by a thread.  We let our emotions take over putting off tomorrow what is better done today.  Workouts get skipped, nutrition takes a back seat, and we make promises to get back on track after the first of the year.  But it doesn’t have to be this way.  You can still enjoy all that the holidays have to offer without taking 10 steps backward from what you’ve achieved throughout the year.

5 Ways to Fill Your Cup

1. Plan Out Your Events/Parties

Look ahead to what your holiday social calendar looks like and plan accordingly.  You may need to adjust your workouts and nutrition based on what is happening each week.  Be sure to make mental and physical preparations to allow for these changes.  Be honest and realistic with yourself, but make sure you create time for you so you can enjoy the festivities without the guilt.

2. Just Say No

No is a complete sentence.  It is OKAY to say NO.  If it’s not going to serve you or your family, or you don’t have the bandwidth to do something, then just say no.  Remember, when you say yes to one thing or event, you are saying no to something else that may be more important.

3. Start Traditions That Have Nothing to do With Food

Our culture is obsessed with food and so many of our social engagements and celebrations tend to be food centered.  Our traditions don’t have to be all about food and yummy treats.  Celebrate the holidays with new family experiences such as decorating donation boxes or bringing gifts to your local assisted living facility.

4. Have Your Treasured Treats

Eat your favorite treats!  Drink your favorite beverages! Don’t deprive yourself and enjoy.  Have them and plan for them, but do it without the guilt.  Be sure to fill up on your veggies and protein first so that you don’t overindulge on the treats.  Try to limit your feast days to one day and not let it take over your entire weekend.

5. Have a Drink or Two

If you plan on drinking an adult beverage or two, follow the 1 to 1 rule.  Drink one glass of water for every one glass of alcohol.  It will keep you hydrated, slow down your alcohol consumption, and fill your belly so you won’t overindulge. Your future self will thank you. Be mindful as you speed through these next few weeks.  How do you want fo feel walking into the New Year? Do you want to feel rested, relaxed, and ahead of your health and wellness journey?  Or do you want to feel defeated, sluggish, and tired?  Incorporating a few of these tips as you navigate these next few weeks, will certainly help you get a jump start into the New Year.
